DPD Traffic Stops Stratified by Race

This chart represents 1358 traffic stops made by the Duluth Police Department from 10/26/20 to 04/05/21. The data was stratified by race of the citizen involved in the traffic stop and placed in two groups. "BIPOC" includes, African American, Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander, and Hispanic motorists while "White" included white motorists. 

An additional 448 traffic stops made by the Duluth Police Department during this time period were excluded from this chart because the race of the motorist was reported as "unknown."

A racial disparity is apparent when comparing the racial breakdown of those being stopped by the DPD and the overall population of Duluth. 18% of traffic stops made by the DPD during this time period were from the BIPOC community while the BIPOC community only makes up 10% of the Duluth population.
